Weather Information
Mountain Innovations provide regular updates on the winter weather and ice climbing conditions in the Northern Cairngorms area - recent routes in prime condition and snow build-up. This is a FREE service.

We provide daily mountain weather forecasts (plus avalanche when appropriate) when you stay at Fraoch Lodge which help you to plan your days around the weather, making the most out of your trip.
The weather over in the East Highlands is better than in the West. We receive less rain than the Lake District or North Wales, and only half that of the West Highlands. The reason for this is that we are in the rain shadow of all the westerly Scottish Mountains. The predominant winds are from a westerly direction meaning that we are protected from most of the weather.
Details of our flight-link package, which ties in with cheap flights/sleeper service from the south are available from this link Please use our enquiry form to request a quote.
If any of you have been winter climbing recently, please feel free to let me know of the condition of your routes.

Midges!
Not as much of a problem over here as it is appreciably drier than
the West, and the winters are much colder at lower elevations.
However, if you happen to meet the wee beasties the best treatment
is to douse yourself in Avon's finest Skin So Soft Woodland Fresh moisturiser.
Kills them on contact!! We can supply Avon Skin So Soft to clients
at Fraoch Lodge and on our walking holidays and courses, if required.
