Fraoch Lodge

Crosses the boundaries between a hostel and and bed and breakfast. We try to make the time to offer all our guests a  drink on arrival while they register. We also include a light breakfast included with their stay as this gives us the opportunity for us to meet you and chat - then the chores become less like chores for us and you get the chance to find out more about the village and the local area from us. If you're interested in going for a walk at all, Andy (as a qualified Mountain Leader, can give you invaluable advice about the local walks which might not be in the guidebooks. If your stay conincides with one of Andy's scheduled walking holidays you might also find yourself benefitting from Rebecca's homebaking when Andy's clients return for "Cake O'Clock" at the end of their day.

Your hosts at Fraoch Lodge are Andy & Rebecca. The house is of a traditional Edwardian design, made of granite. Artifacts from our travels through Asia & Africa adorn the walls as do mountain pictures. Comfortable accommodation is provided in 6 twin rooms. Each bedroom has its own hand basin and there is a 1:4 toilet & shower ratio.

Cake O'Clock at Fraoch Lodge, Boat of GartenThe lounge

There is a comfortable guest lounge, which is one of the highlights of a stay at Fraoch Lodge. Most guests very much enjoy the opportunity to sit by the open fire and share their experiences. We don’t have a TV but the fire/conversation seems to provide enough entertainment along with the cards and games behind the sofa.

The food - if required

Catering is available at Fraoch Lodge with meal times to suit your group. We cater for all kinds of groups & can tailor our menu to your requirements including for those who may have special dietary needs.

Will Hide’s article in "The Guardian" 7.5.05.........

"we spent the first night enjoying Rebecca's cooking, which would have passed muster in any hotel. Home-made fishcakes, curries, white chocolate & pecan brownies, and raspberry & basil ice cream make up just a small part of her repertoire..."

Additional facilities

We have a guest kitchen available for those who want the flexibility of taking care of their own meal arrangements or for preparing snacks and drinks as required. Tea, coffee etc are available in the kitchen instead of hospitality trays in the rooms.

The Lodge also provides a fully equipped drying room, daily mountain forecasts and Andrew, a mountaineering instructor, is always on hand to provide information on conditions & local route advice should it be needed. He is also very knowledgeable about the high mountain flora & fauna.
